Before You Board

The ex-Emirates flight attendant’s checklist for a smoother long-haul flight.

Your medication should not be inside the cabin bag taken at the gate. Your child should not arrive hungry because you hoped airline food would save you. And your special meal cannot appear after the aircraft doors close.

I worked for Emirates. This is what I wish passengers knew before boarding.

Inside the checklist

  • What to decide before you book.
  • What must stay in your personal bag.
  • Special meals, medication, children, and luggage.
  • The boarding, call-bell, turbulence, and landing rules people learn too late.

Manners do not vanish at 30,000 feet.
